6 Quick & Easy Sewing Projects For Gifts
For a long time used to make those last minute purchases for Christmas gifts – the ones where you’ve dashed into a general store, frantically searching for items that can be gifted the next day. Yes, I was a Christmas Eve shopper.
As I got older, and more aware of sustainability, I realized it was better to make more informed purchase decisions for the benefit of the planet, the gift receiver and most importantly, my wallet.
This is when I started to create homemade items.
Today I’m going to share with you some of the quick and easy Christmas sewing projects I have made that you could make too, to save you from the frantic dashing around stores buying things that nobody really wants or needs.
Christmas Sewing Project Ideas
Whether you plan to sew gifts for friends or gifts for family, this little collection is full of ideas that you can sew in just an hour or two, making it a no-brainer and cost effective. In fact, some of these projects work best with the scraps that you have in your fabric stash, so its a great way to destash as well.
1. The Faux Fur Pom Pom Keychain
This is an all time favorite tutorial here on my website – and a firm favorite with those I have gifted them too! The pom poms can be attached to a keychain clasp or kept simple with a loop and gifted as Christmas tree decorations. In fact, I think I may just make a few for our Christmas tree which is looking a little bare this year.

2. The Small Wallet
Another firm favorite, this super simple and easy to make wallet is small and sews up in just a handful of minutes. I like to use these if I’m giving away cash or a gift card, as it’s a lot nicer than a paper envelope right? But I also have one friend – Lewis – who has used the sparkle version I gave him years ago for some time now!

3. The Scrap Busting Scrunchie
I know that many people are not fans of the humble scrunchie – myself included for the longest time! But not that I have very long hair, I appreciate a scrunchie as much as the next person. Use smaller amounts of fabric scraps patched together or take a large one meter wide piece of fabric and sew a big and poofy scrunchy! Either version makes a great Christmas gift idea!

4. The Easy Peasy Quilted Glasses Case
This is the perfect project for anyone who wears glasses, whether reading, distance or sun glasses! It’s a simple to make padded glasses case, and all you need is a piece of fabric, some wadding and bias tape. Easy peasy, the tutorial I created will walk you through the process, but there’s also a video for those who prefer.

5. The Elegant Bow Tie
The last couple of years now I have made a bow tie for people at Christmas. In 2021 it was for my mate Richard, who had never worn one before. In 2022 it was for my other half who was envious of Richard’s the year before.
And of course I made one for myself too. Because why wouldn’t I give myself the gift of a floral bow tie?

6. Rowan Tool Roll
Finally, there’s the Rowan Tool Roll, a sewing pattern that you can sew up for any person in your life. It works for crochet hooks, sewing tools, pen, pencils and so much more.
I have two versions in daily use and while it needs a little more fabric than just ‘fabric scraps’ it is also worth the extra time and effort in making this.
