My Christmas Sewing Plans (Projects I’m Excited To Make!)

Hey friends! I recently finished up a HUGE project and have made a list of Christmas sewing projects that I thought I would share with you, in case you’re looking for some inspiration!

I have a few that will be Christmas gifts – which I’ll start with in case you’re looking for some Christmas gift sewing projects! – and there are some which I’ll be making ready for a holiday to Morocco in January!

I like to plan out my holiday sewing in one of my sewing planners. Sometimes I print the pages, sometimes I keep it just on my iPad.

Christmas Gifts I’m Sewing

Let’s start with the Christmas gifts that I’ll be sewing up this holiday season.

1. Trigg Shorts

David, a white man, wears the Trigg Shorts - a men's drawstring shorts pattern!

First up are the Trigg shorts from Elbe Textiles. I’m making them in linen for David, so that he can have them in time for our holiday in Morocco. I’ve made this pattern twice for him before and he loves them, so I know these will be a winner!

If you’ve not seen the previous versions I made, check out my post about this mens drawstring shorts pattern!

2. Solberg Jacket

Another pattern from Elbe Textiles – and another present for D – this has been on my ‘to do’ pile for a while, and is top of my Christmas sewing plans.

I was drawn to the Solberg Jacket because of the extra front flap with the fastening detail. It looks like something he’d love. My plan is to make it up in one of the five new linens I got in December. The original plan was to make this and the shorts in the blue, so he’d have a co-ord set, but I feel like the blue might be too blue for his taste…

3. Rowan Tool Roll

My two versions of the Rowan Tool Roll in waxed cotton fabric

It wouldn’t be right to sew gifts and not include one of my own patterns! The Rowan Tool Roll sewing pattern is a firm favourite and makes great gifts. I have a friend who wants one for her makeup brushes, so that’s what I’ll be making!

You can grab the tool roll sewing pattern from my online shop.

Sewing ‘For Me’ Projects

Right, onto the projects I’ll be making for myself this Christmastime.

1. The Odette Dress from Veronica Tucker

First up is this gorgeous dress pattern. I saw Veronica share a hacked wrap dress version of this which was so drool worthy I immediately bought the pattern and printed out the pieces for it. Could I have self drafted it? Obviously. Could I be bothered to? Nah!

My plan is to make the Odette Dress in the red linen. I may wear it Christmas Day (if I get it sewn by then) or perhaps New Years Eve (if it’s sewn by then) but failing both of those, it’ll go to Morocco with us so I can enjoy the easy breezy gorgeousness of it there.

2. Phen Shirt from Pattern Fantastique

The Phen Shirt sewing pattern from Pattern Fantastique

I love supporting indie pattern designers, and the Phen Shirt is a shirt pattern that gave me all the feels when I first saw it (and ever since to be fair). I have had the pattern printed and ready to go since I wrote up my post on shirt patterns from indie designers, but it’s now time to make it.

I have a gorgeous drapey rayon crepe that would be amazing. It’s heavier that I’d intended to use, but it would make such a great ‘dressy’ version of this pattern that it feels like a no-brainer..

3. Sunstar Swimsuit from Helen’s Closet

I cannot go to a warm country and not take a swimsuit with me. So I’ll be making the Sunstar Swimsuit up again. I made a mock up back in August, but the fabric choice was wrong, so this time I’m going to crack open the two swimsuit fabrics I’ve been saving for something else.

4 way heavy weight stretch fabrics may have added stretch fibers to achieve stretch in all directions

4. Ninni Culottes from Named Clothing

The Ninni Culottes from Named Patterns

I snagged the Ninni Culottes pattern from The Foldline in December as part of their 12 days of Christmas (you should get on their email list if you want to snag offers next holiday season). My plan is to make two pairs. One as shorts in some lightweight denim I have left over from another project, and the second as culottes in linen. I’m thinking the dark brown/black linen is a great option.

I have a gorgeous pair of linen trousers I got from M&S in the UK, but my tummy is far too fat at the moment to squeeze into them, so I feel like elasticated culottes may be the way to go.

If I only get one pair done, it’ll be ok, as I do have two other pairs of shorts I can take to Morocco with me.

5. Block Tee from Paper Theory

I have a great tee pattern of my own, but it has separate sleeves and I’m after one that has interesting style lines and grown on style sleeves. The Block Tee from Paper theory patterns is perfect.

I’m going to make it in… linen again! Sensing I may have ordered a little *too much* linen? But it’ll be something that I can wear throughout spring and summer as well, so that’s a win.

My thinking it would look gorgeous in the pale straw/gold linen below… maybe with a matching pair of shorts?

6. Solberg Jacket (Again)

This year I made the most gorgeous denim jacket (which I’ll reveal in due course) but from taking it to Porto in September I know it’ll be far too warm to wear in Morocco. So, I’m going to make a different view of the Solberg jacket for me. In linen. Again. (Can I insert laughing emojis on my own website?)

I can’t decide which color at this point, so it may be a case of seeing what is left over after all the other projects are completed… which is likely to be the blue below me thinks.

7. Field Belt by Merchant and Mills

Our bag allowance is small for the trip to Morocco, and as I’ve been warned about Marrakech being ‘tricky’, I’m going to take a small bag that can be hidden under a jacket. I did think about making up my Clio Bumbag Pattern, but I have a couple of those already, so I’ll pack one, and then take this as well.

I haven’t decided which fabric from my stash I’ll use… Maybe the last of the waxed cotton I used for my Rowan Tool roll.. maybe some leather remnants in my stash. We shall see…

Your Christmas Sewing Plans?

Have you got any Christmas sewing plans for the holiday period? I also want to make a few more baby bits for my great niece (I’m not THAT old honest, but my niece is having her first baby in the new year) but she reads my blog so I can’t share those until after she gets them. Ha ha!

  1. Hi Eve, I’ve made clothes for the girls in my family, daughters and eldest granddaughter all had two dresses each. Next granddaughter had a few skirts and tops, then 3 youngest all had pretty dresses. I’ve got some other projects to do for myself but no rush for them. Love the shorts by the way x

    1. Hi Lesley! Oh, this all sounds so fab! What a treat for them all! It’s so lovely to make things for others isn’t it? Did you have success with the project you emailed me about in October? I haven’t forgotten to make up a tutorial, only just finished up *that* project! 😉

  2. My plan for the Christmas period is to sew up my lace curtains that I have had for 5 years now. This fabric has travelled down to our coast house each Christmas and back home and I haven’t completed so this is my plan plus sew for myself eg maybe some shorts and some pretty sun dresses.Hope I get it done.

    1. Oh these sound like some great projects Evelin! What’s stopping you from doing the curtains each year? Is there something you can do to overcome that? I LOVE the idea of pretty sundresses. Do you have any patterns in mind? I need to make a couple dresses for this summer, I have too few and dresses feel a bit ‘airy’ now I’m old enough to appreciate that factor! 😉
