Top Picks from the Open Studios Show 2015
Top Picks from the Winter 2015 Open Studios show
It’s always very hard to decide upon Top Picks. How do you limit such a vast selection of art, prints, photography, sculpture to a few top pics? Well, the night before the last Open Studios show, in November 2015, I found myself wandering the dark corridors of the community space in the very early hours, alone. It was cold, it was dark, it was about 3am, yet with my trusty iPhone torch, I was able to take a long and sneaky peek around the red studios and snap some shots of the hung work. What a sight…
From abstract artists, figurative artists, photographers and sculptors, there were ceramicists and wood workers, with the odd textile and fashion designer thrown in too. Wimbledon Art Studios Open Studio’s event is an event that should never be missed. Yes, you could say that I am be slightly biased, being based there myself for the last two-something years. Yet I never approach the show as a sales event of my own work, rather I see it as more of an opportunity to become familiar with the creative artists working in the same environment as myself. It is a great opportunity to wander the corridors, pop in to the studios and see artists at work, or chat with them about their inspiration, their methods, their upcoming shows and all without feeling pressured to buy like you would at a bigger commercial event. That’s not to say that you can’t buy. But even if you are not in a position to buy any of the work on show during the four day event, I really recommend popping along for a visit. You will leave inspired, and probably wanting more.
Below is a selection of work spotted on my November wander… And I cannot wait to see what I find this year!
The next show is May 12th through to May 15th 2016, see you there!
