Privacy Policy

At The Creative Curator, I am committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of visitors to this website. In particular, I want you to know that I am not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. That’s just not cool – and I like to think I’m too cool for school! 😉

However, despite this being my policy since the creation of The Creative Curator, I now have a legal requirement to provide you with a detailed privacy policy so that you are clear on when, and why, I collect your personal information, how I use it and of course, how I keep it secure. This is that policy – enjoy! 🙂

Types of Data That I Collect

Website Cookies

A “cookie” is a piece of information that gets stored on your computer’s hard drive when you visit a website. It records how you move around a website so that when you revisit that website at a later date, it can present tailored options to you, based on the information stored about your last visit. Cookies can also be used to analyse my website traffic and are sometimes used by me for advertising and marketing purposes.

Cookies are used by nearly all websites and they don’t harm your system.

If you would like to check or change what types of cookies you accept, this can usually be altered within your web browser settings. You can block cookies at any time by activating the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of all, or some, cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of my site.

How do I use cookies?

I use cookies to track your use of my website. Doing this enables me to understand how you use my website and allows me to track any patterns with regards to how you are using it. This could be highlighting the pages you find most useful on my website so that I can create more useful complimentary content, or it could be to see what times my audience prefer to visit my website and read new content. This tracking helps me to develop and improve my website as well as products and / or services in response to what you might need or want in the future.

Cookies are either:

– Session cookies: these are only stored on your computer during your web session and are automatically deleted when you close your browser – they usually store an anonymous session ID allowing you to browse a website without having to log in to each page but they do not collect any personal data from your computer; or

– Persistent cookies: a persistent cookie is stored as a file on your computer and it remains there when you close your web browser. The cookie can be read by the website that created it when you visit that website again.

Cookies can also be categorised as follows:

– Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are essential to enable you to use the website effectively, such as when buying a product and / or service, and therefore cannot be turned off. Without these cookies, the services available to you on my website cannot be provided. These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you have been on the internet.

– Performance cookies: These cookies enable me to monitor and improve the performance of my website. For example, they allow me to count visits, identify traffic sources and see which parts of the site are most popular.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The “help” feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

Google Analytics

When someone visits this website I use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. I do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of my site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. I do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting my website.

Mailing Lists

As part of the registration process for my newsletter, I collect personal information that you have freely given to me (this is usually limited to your first name and email address). I use that information to send regular (currently weekly / sometimes monthly) newsletters to tell you about new blog posts and tutorials you might find helpful, to let you know about new products (planners, sewing patterns, online courses) that you may want to learn more about and a monthly inspirational email of other sewing, pattern making and fashion / textile related posts.

Essentially, I only use the information to send you things relating to being fab at making your own clothes or making amazing fashion for others. Sometimes, I may use the information you provide me with to contact you if I need to obtain or provide additional information on a product; or it may be to check that my records are correct and to check every now and again that you’re happy and satisfied. I promise you, I don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses. It just isn’t cool – and remember, I’m WAY to cool for school! 😉

I use a third-party provider, called MailerLite to deliver my newsletter and manage my email marketing subscriber list. MailerLite may process your data using industry standard technologies to help me monitor and improve my newsletter. MailerLite’s privacy policy is available at https://www.mailerlite.com/privacy-policy.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the bottom of each newsletter.

You can of course unsubscribe to these mailings from me at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of my emails or you can email me directly on hello@thecreativecurator.com – I promise that I won’t take offence!

Surveys

Sometimes I may send out a survey, for pattern testers or just general feedback on what you think The Creative Curator could be doing more of, to help you. I usually use a company called Typeform – see their privacy policy here. You do not need to respond to the surveys if you have no wish too, but if you do, you can usually choose to do so anonymously, or if it is a pattern testing survey, you will need to leave your email address for further contact from me.

Order Information

When you make a purchase from The Creative Curator, I use different intermediaries to collect the payment. Please click the links below to learn how these payment gateways will process your information.

When a purchase is made using one of these intermediaries, I may collect the following information: your name, your billing address, your shipping address and an email address. Your payment information (including credit/debit card information) is not held my me, but is processed through the above named secure payment gateways.

Behavioural Advertising

As described above, I may use your Personal Information and Device Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications I believe may be of interest to you. You can opt out of targeted advertising by:

Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=ads

Google – https://www.google.com/settings/ads/anonymous

Pinterest – https://help.pinterest.com/en/article/personalization-and-data

Third Parties

I do not share your data with any third parties, but as stated above I do use MailerLite to deliver my emails and I use Google analytics to figure out how suitable my emails have been.

Links to Other Websites

My privacy notice does not cover any links within my site that link to other websites. Those sites are not governed by this privacy policy, and if you do have any questions about how a site uses your information, you’ll need to check that particular site’s privacy statement.

Access to Your Personal Information

Under the new law, you are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that I hold. If you’d like to know, amend or have your personal information deleted, please email your request to hello@thecreativecurator.com
